Romain Carré-Mattei
b. 1997, Corsica
Lives and works in Lausanne,
Switzerland
Romain Carré's work explores the idea of objectivity, poeticising the human search for a perception outside of itself. Rooted in a practice at the crossroads of art and science, his research touches on the foundations of knowledge, revealing the fragility of a discourse at the very limit of the observable world.
Romain Carré's projects encompass, without hierarchy, worlds, life, physics, realities. They form the pursuit of a Post-Nature, constructing shifting scenes and beings in constant recomposition, multiplying viewpoints and scales. A celebration of the hybrid, where continuity emerges between different forms of intelligence, organic and synthetic matter, living and inert, digital and fictional entities.
In this universe, narratives are non-referential; each agent participates, without overarching perspective, in a shared atmosphere. Romain Carré's practice thus seeks not to represent the world, but to replay its sensible experience — within a network where each thing exists through and with the others.
Romain Carré graduated in 2021 from the Istituto Universitario di Architettura in Venice, and from the Paris Observatory with highest honours. His work has been presented in Switzerland and abroad in several institutions, including Galerie du Crous, FR; Bissone Arte ‘22, CH; the Bonifacio Biennale, Corsica; the Agnès b. Endowment Fund, FR; Palazzo Ca’Tron, IT; the Regional House of Architecture of the Pays de la Loire; and Théâtre de la Ville de Paris, FR.
